2009 Box Show Artists Talk- Videos on YouTube:
Part 1
Part 2
The Box Show at Gallery Route One and the artwork is just as amazing as ever. Think of the possibilities: 150 artists are each given a plain wood box; each donates time, materials and talent to create a unique art object. You’ll find every imaginable creation, from the sublime to the silly, from cleverly humorous to beautifully breathtaking, and each one started from an identical wood box. During the exhibition the ‘box art’ is bid on through a silent auction. On the closing day of the show the auction goes live for the last hour. The final bidding party, is often wild and exciting. Bids start at $25 and sometimes go as high as $5,000 by the last day. The Box Show is the major yearly fundraiser for Gallery Route One.
HOW TO APPLY:
Sign up on the lottery list. The 150 artists from the previous year are called and say yes or no to participate in the current show. There are usually around 30 boxes available and the names are picked from the lottery list. Artists are contacted throughout May, and boxes are available to pick up on June 1st.
PAST SHOWS:
