The Box Show 2008
OPENING Reception: Sunday, August 3rd 3-5 pm
This is the 10th Box Show at Gallery Route One and the artwork is just as amazing as ever. Think of the possibilities: 150 artists are each given a plain wood box; each donates time, materials and talent to create a unique art object. You’ll find every imaginable creation, from the sublime to the silly, from cleverly humorous to beautifully breathtaking, and each one started from an identical wood box. During the exhibition the ‘box art’ is bid on through a silent auction. On the closing day of the show the auction goes live for the last hour. The final bidding party, slated for Sunday, September 14, from 2-3 p.m., is often wild and exciting. Bids start at $25 and sometimes go as high as $5,000 by the last day.
The Box Show is the major yearly fundraiser for Gallery Route One, a nonprofit, community-serving art organization that is turning 25 this year. The organization, which is administered and supported by 21 Bay Area artists presents exhibitions and other programs focused on local and global environmental issues, and supports an Artist in the Schools program.
CLOSING Party and final bidding: Sunday, September 14th, 2 to 3 pm Live Auction & Final Bidding begins at 3 pm
We believe that art is an intellectual and spiritual necessity
that belongs in every community. Our purpose is to provide
a professional exhibition space for artwork and a program
that addresses the cultural, political, and environmental
concerns of our rural community and the greater Bay Area.
