Juanita Diaz Artist Statement: For me, I was super enchanted. At first I was afraid to have a camera in my hands because I had always cut off peoples’ heads in pictures I took in Mexico. In fact, no one passed me the camera!
I loved when our group got together to celebrate the birthdays, It was then I began to feel we were not just classmates, but we had became friends.
Before I was afraid to talk to people in town. I just came to town to work. Now when I go to the bank and the bakery, people say “hi”, or they pose. They ask me if the pictures came out and can they see them. I say “later on”. I am more open with people. And now when I am in a new place I think, “Oh, this would be a beautiful picture.”
I have told many people about this project and now they want to join!
