RePose

RePose is a site-specific collaborative installation created by Bolinas artists’ Jacqueline Mallegni, Waldemar Mitrowski, and Martin Butt.  The installation is inspired by the theme ‘geography of hope’, a phrase used by Wallace Stegner in his wilderness letter written in 1960 to the Wildland Research Center.  A sentence from that letter “...Something will have gone out of us as a people if we ever let the remaining wilderness be destroyed...” resonated with me in a metaphysical way relative to my interrelationship with nature.  As an intuitive artist, my work involves using natural materials and handmade paper to create sculpture. Martin Butt is an ecological landscaper specializing in garden ponds and sculptural water features. Waldemar Mitrowski is well-known for his figurative painting and book sculpture, and has recently become impassioned with digital imagery.  Mitrowski’s digital photography of nature’s textures will be integrated with Butt’s water feature and Mallegni’s organic sculpture offering visitors an opportunity to interface with an environment reminiscent of the preciousness of wilderness, of the land on which we so deeply depend.  Together, by creating a visual and tactile interpretation of a 'geography of hope' our intention is to stimulate responsible action toward the preservation of our planet.

Artist reception dates:
